Starting with the worst part first, the water in our bathroom would not stay warm, let alone hot. Sometimes we didn't have hot water at all. There were lots of stains on the walls, the windows were hard to see out of and were rusty. The cabinets in our stateroom didn't all latch closed, so they would bang in the middle of the night. The jet skis had ripped seats, so did the banana boat. And if you sit on the side of the pool, put a towel down! The stuff between the boards stained and ruined some clothing. We had to anchor and tender at every port which is quite inconvenient when you have an excursion or want to go back to the boat to eat. We were given pajamas that were "one size fits all" but it should be "one size fits only children" as none of us could wear them. The "casino" is one blackjack table in a closet-like room, I wasn't expecting a huge casino, but at least three tables. The gym is also only open during certain hours, so if you are an early riser to the gym forget about it! On to the good! The staff was so great! From our waiters, bartenders, down to our stewardesses. So friendly and helpful. By the evening the stewardess already knew me by name. The food was great and so was the wine pairing. The size of the staterooms were great for a boat! Just wish the actual stateroom was up to par. The beds were soft and the shower was a good size. The staff made this cruise! If it weren't for them we would not have had a great time!

This was my first time on a SeaDream yacht and it was everything I expected and more. The welcome and check-in were warm and very pleasant: champagne and a handshake from the captain as we boarded, then more champagne and hors doeuvres and pastries while we relaxed in the lounge to wait for our personal concierge check-in. Our Yacht Club Suite had a Scandinavian modern look, with a sleeping area (curtained off at night) and a sitting area with a flat screen TV, coffee table, telephone, mini-bar (water, soft drinks and beer were replenished daily). The closets and drawers were more than ample for a weeks itinerary. The bathroom had a spacious multi-jet shower, but no tub. Amenities were high end Bulgari and replenished as needed. I loved the Deck 4 location, as our suite was located midway between the spa and the library (and the piano bar). Within one day the crew knew my name and my daughters, and soon after that we knew many of the passengers only 84 (100 are possible) on this particular trip and that made mixing and mingling more pleasurable than it could be on a big ship. Coming to the trip in the aftermath of Sandy, we were both in need of rest and relaxation and that need was fulfilled completely. One of the first things I noticed (after the mandatory lifeboat drill) was the absence of announcements. Peace and quiet, with no one inviting me to play bingo or buy the cocktail of the day (cocktails, like all beverages, except the most expensive premium brands are complimentary). On the yachts of SeaDream you can do as you please, even if that means doing nothing. We started each day with a spectacular breakfast (most meals are spectacular, beautiful to look at, as well as delicious to eat). Then we could either go ashore or enjoy the diversions on and around the yacht, including the Thai-inspired spa and fitness center. I skipped the fitness center, but when the spa offered some specials, I booked the Body Glow, which was part (gentle) scrub with sugar and Thai herbs and part massage. The spa is small cozy, actually which makes sense given the limited number of passengers. It is never crowded and the estheticians are never too busy to fulfill a request. For example, my daughter enjoyed the complimentary sauna (with aromatherapy), and all she had to do was ask to have it turned on 15 minutes before she wanted to use it. One of the features we both enjoyed was the scheduled use of the water toys jet skis, rafts, banana boats, etc. that the crew deposited into the water almost every day. Like almost everything else, use of the toys is complimentary. Also scheduled -- not at the same time the toys were in the water -- were the sunset swims off the yacht. The library provided hundreds of good books if we wanted to just veg out on the comfy Balinese beds on deck. Any time we wanted a cocktail or tropical drink or snack, all we had to do was ask. Our Eastern Caribbean itinerary was perfect for our needs. As we'd visited some of the ports, we didn't feel the need to rush around to explore (as we usually do). Brand new for us was St. Barths (or St. Barts), which gave us several OMG moments. Every high-end brand has a shop here, and while we were there, two mega-yachts belonging to billionaires were moored near the SeaDream II. And that gives you an idea of what St. Barths is all about. Another of the many things I liked about my experience was that it wasn't necessary to pay for all kinds of shore excursions to have a good time. Crew members often organized casual hikes or trips to the beaches. The signature event of a Caribbean cruise on SeaDream is the Champagne and Caviar Splash. The ship's crew starts offloading supplies from the yacht and transfers them to a private beach, where it's possible to join a yoga class, get a massage or stretch out on a lounge and sip a cold drink. Around noon, the chef and one of the officers wade into the surf, set up an informal serving area and start popping champagne corks and dishing out caviar. (Champagne and caviar are abundant aboard the yachts of SeaDream.) A beach barbecue follows -- and when it's not possible to eat any more, the banana boats are launched and a great time is had by all. The SeaDream experience is unique, in that it offers fine dining and luxury in an atmosphere where shorts and flip-flops are fine all day and casual elegance works well in the evening. No black tie ever, no sequins and beads necessary (unless you want to throw a beaded top over a pair of slacks) just as there are no flashy Vegas-style shows. The casino consists of one table. So that gives you an idea of what the typical SeaDream passenger cares about.
