About Silversea Cruises

Like any line in this category, the ships of Silversea deliver five-star cuisine, spacious staterooms and the kind of service where the crew quickly learns guests' names and preferences. To take the service concept even further, every Silversea stateroom (not just the most expensive) gets butler service. This means making sure that guests have everything they need, from fresh fruit to clean laundry to freshly shined shoes. The butler also presents room service meals, as they would be presented at a fine dining restaurant - not all at once, but course by course.

All the ships are of a size that allows docking in exotic ports not accessible to the big ships. The line's three expedition ships are able to navigate the waters of remote and difficult destinations, while providing passengers with a full complement of luxury and service.

The Silver Spirit has the largest suites of the fleet (95% with private verandas), a resort-style pool, an Asian-themed restaurant, an expansive spa and four whirlpools.

Accommodations are all ocean-view suites (most have a private balcony). The ships offer open-seating dining options, so guests dine when and with whom they desire. Despite their smaller size, Silversea vessels offer such large ship amenities as elaborate lounges with nightly entertainment, casinos, a spa and state-of-the-art fitness facilities.

Silversea passengers tend to be well-traveled and affluent; the line has partnered with some of the world's best-known luxury brands: Bvlgari, Ferragamo, Davidoff and Relais & Chateaux.

Silversea Cruises is best for:

Adults looking for a luxury vacation at sea;
Those who want authentic expedition cruises without sacrificing any luxury;
Seasoned travelers who are destination-oriented and expect the best of everything;
Those who want long cruises that explore many of the world's wonders.

The atmosphere and experience onboard Silversea Cruises:

A cruise aboard any of the Silversea ships offers all the luxuries of a five-star hotel. Accommodations are suites with walk-in closets, marble baths, balconies and high end-linens. Silversea's focus is on service- there is nearly one crew member for every guest-- and there is butler service for all guests, on all ships, even the three expedition ships, Silver Explorer, Silver Galapagos and Silver Discoverer. Passengers can also expect sophisticated entertainment, distinguished lecturers and acclaimed chefs who prepare international cuisine.

Silversea guests have an abundance of dining choices, either five or six, depending on the ship. Choices include Le Champagne, the only Relais & Chateaux restaurant at sea and the (evening) Black Rock Dining experience, whereby guests cook their own fish or meat on preheated lava stones, set up on the transformed pool deck. As the line has an Italian heritage, expect fresh pasta at meals and menus that reflect the Slow Food movement, which originated in Italy.

The shorter itineraries (eight nights or fewer) generally include two formal nights; longer voyages generally include three or four. For those nights, cocktail dresses for women and tuxedos or dark suits are recommended for men. For informal nights, jackets for me and dresses or pants suits are appropriate for women. Jeans, baseball caps, etc. are not allowed in the restaurants.

The clientele of Silversea Cruises:

The typical Silversea passenger is well-traveled, affluent and over 50, although the line does attract young professionals as well. The ships' demographics reflect an international mix; approximately 75% are English-speaking (50% from the U.S.) and the other 25% from various other parts of the world.

Regarding children onboard Silversea Cruises: Silver Explorer cannot accommodate infants under the age of 1 year. Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper and Silver Spirit cannot accommodate infants under the age of 6 months.

Guests must notify Silversea of any children between the ages of 6 months and 1 year who will be sailing on board the ship. A signed and notarized waiver will be required for all children between these ages.

Although Silversea accepts guests over the age of 6 months (over the age of 1 year for Silversea Expeditions), there are no special programs for children on board, and Silversea does not provide for the care, entertainment or supervision of children. Silversea reserves the right to limit the number of children younger than 3 years of age.

In addition, children under 6 years of age cannot be accommodated on the Zodiacs used for Silversea Expeditions. As Silversea does not provide babysitting services, an adult family member will be required to remain on board Silver Explorer with their child(ren) during Zodiac excursions.
