RCCL now delivers less than expected., August 15, 2014
Reviewer: EdWeg35242
Pros: Evening entertainment shows were better than some other cruise lines.
Cons: Staff is mediocre and often fails to perform to minimal standards.
Departure port: Stockholm, Sweden
Region visited: Europe
Cabin category: Balcony
Cabin number: 7634
The ships design and layout were nice with wider passageways than most ships it seemed. Though, there weren't enough public restrooms on each deck. The theater had more comfortable seating than the standard theater style seating most ships use. Encountered a wine problem (they dispensed my wine to others without my permission) the very first night, and relayed to them, took them 5 days to get back to me to resolve. Too many, do nothing, low level supervisors running around. I also don't care what the galley budget is, if I want poached eggs (or rice), I should be able to get them. I asked for three fried eggs in the buffet, they said I could only get two. The bread was always hard - from day one - and never got better. This was worse than from a day old bread store anywhere. Had to cut all crusts away; then a low level supervisor made a big deal about my doing so. They had a static main dining room menu for the 2 week cruise, which was unalterable - they couldn't honor even minor changes. Seems the food budget was cut back to lesser quality and quantity fare throughout the cruise. There were no specialty dining nights in the main dining room. Would have been nice to have regional menu items from port visited that day. You had to pay extra for a lobster or filet mignon too - wow, can't they make the cruise experience special without nickel and diming you to death. The deck bar manipulated even drink specials to manufacture higher tips than warranted with the drink prices. Automatic tipping (the way most cruise lines now raise your cruise fare) is detrimental to working for tips. This was our worst RCCL experience of the two we did, the first being years ago.

RCL continues to reduce the quality and offerings on their dinner menu to poor., January 2, 2014
Reviewer: willy6100
Pros: RCL continues to have excellent trained people and courteous
Cons: Ship had illness on previous cruise. Tried to implement "red code", unorganized
Date of cruise: December 12, 2013
Departure port: Ft. Lauderdale
Region visited: Caribbean - Southern
Cabin category: Balcony
We are Diamond Plus on Royal and have about 40 cruises on Celebrity and Azamara. So we are very familiar with RCL offerings. We have done 10 Royal cruises in the last two years. We have noticed a definite reduction in the quality and offerings on the dinner menu. To the point that we are going to try some of the other lines. It is sad to see RCL copying Carnival on these type of things.

Pros: Christmas Decorations very well done. Pacific Coast from Panama to Mexico lovely
Cons: I found 14 days a little too long. Prefer 10 or 11 days
Departure port: Ft Lauderdale
Region visited: Panama Canal
Cabin category: Outside
Cabin number: unknown
Good for children: Yes
Good for teenagers: Yes
This is a very old review. Our Panama Canal transit was in December 1998. Hoping for some new reviews as I'm considering sailing aboard Legend again in 2014 in Norway. Would appreciate some up to date insight.
