Whale watching and a salmon bake---an amazing experience!, June 21, 2017
Reviewer: CarolZ_20

Pros: The tour went like clockwork and the guides are wonderful!

Cons: No "cons"!

We took a whale watching tour (saw five whales!) and then finished off the trip with a salmon bake. The food was so good and the outdoor setting was really great. Reserve an early tour so that you can take your time walking around Juneau afterward.

Great place, September 8, 2010
Reviewer: 066027

Pros: Good shopping and excursions

Cons: None that I can think of

For us a trip to Juneau was made by our excursion to the Taku Glacier Lodge. The floatplane even agreed to carry my wife's wheelchair. The plane ride over the glacier was fantastic but best of all was the lodge. A lunch of salmon was cooked outside and eaten indoors. Best of all, while we were eating a black bear appeared just feet away outside and started licking the leftover salmon off the grill. Great photo opportunity.

A big disappointment, August 23, 2010
Reviewer: Rick Helm

Pros: There are plenty of shops providing furs, jewelry, etc if you want that

Cons: The number of shops selling furs, jewelry, etc.

Juneau was a huge disappointment. I read that it is one of the most attractive state capitals. If so, I pity the others. I can only assume we missed something somewhere but, if so, other people we spoke to also missed it. The port provides excursions to take and there is a gondola or "tram" up the mountain for a view of the town but the town itself has little going for it, full of tourist shops of the worst kind. We visited the museum, which was interesting and good value. Compared with Skagway and Ketchikan it has little to offer. I recommend you get an excursion and spend as little time as possible in the town.
