Azamara exceeded ALL of my expectations - Service + Quality = Happy Cruiser, April 29, 2011
Reviewer: gavenf

Pros: The staff on this ship was amazing, cabin attendant was fantastic!

Cons: Can't thing of a thing - really!

Departure port: Rome

Region visited: Mediterranean

Cabin category: Balcony

Cabin number: 6080

Good for children: No

Good for teenagers: No

This was my first cruise with Azamara and my fourth cruise overall (previously sailed twice with Radisson Seven Seas and once with Disney). I was fortunate to get an excellent deal on this cruise - one with NO single supplement on a balcony cabin. In all ways, the Azamara compared favorably to the Seven Seas Mariner - and beat them on price. This was also my first cruise as a solo traveler. The staff on board took especially good care of me (special kudos to my cabin attendant, the bar staff and the casino staff). Without exception, every time I encountered a member of the Azamara staff, I was greeted warmly. I was particularly impressed that many of them even remembered my name! Food and drink on the Journey was excellent. I ate in the Discovery dining room three times and the other days in either the Windows Cafe or just made do with munchies from the cart in the Mosaic Cafe (my favorite place on the ship). I also took part in the afternoon tea on one day and it was lovely (and yummy). One night, I had a craving for pasta and the room service staff figured out a way to make it happen. I also participated in one of the 'tasting' evens in the Martini Bar - in fact, it was the Martini tasting. Very generous servings and, to the extent I remember, a lot of fun. The Mosaic Cafe deserves special mention as I spent most of the time while on the ship there. In the mornings, there was always coffee (lattes, cappuccinos, etc.) and fresh pastry to start my day. Afternoons/evenings were great as David (the bartender) was an excellent conversationalist and kept me company whenever I was there. LOVED it! I made use of the spa on the Journey as we set sail in getting an acupuncture treatment for seasickness. Maybe it's in my head, but it worked! I've suffered from motion sickness my entire life and am accustomed to taking Dramamine. This trip, I was fine without it! I also took advantage of one of the spa 'special offers' the first cruise night - 15 minutes neck/shoulders and 15 minutes feet/legs. It was wonderfully relaxing. Lastly, one night I had my hair washed/styled in the salon and also enjoyed that experience. My cabin was comfortable and well-maintained. The shower was a bit small, but very workable. lenty of room to move around and the balcony was pure bliss. he treats provided by my cabin attendant each evening were especially welcome. I also made use of the eConnections - both in the room and via WiFi with my iPad. It was a bit pricey (I purchased the most expensive package of $100 twice and another minimum package of $30). The service was generally pretty reliable and in the eConnections room there was a printer where I could print my daily puzzles. I did not take part in any of the shore excursions nor did I attend any of the cabaret events so cannot comment on either of those. The pool area was very comfortable and service (as with everywhere else on the ship) was exemplary. My favorite activity while on board (other than spending time at the Mosaic Cafe) was playing the tables in the Casino. I enjoyed that time so much that it was a disappointment to be in port as the Casino was closed. The Casino staff was friendly and fun and created an entertaining environment where I was encouraged to spend time while at sea. Jackie, the assistant manager of the Casino, was particularly warm and always chatted with me outside of the Casino whenever we crossed paths throughout the cruise. I also made use of both the Journey Shop and the special promotional sales while on board. The selection was limited, but very nice and reasonably priced. They also appeared to vary their selection throughout the cruise which kept me coming back to see what was new each day. Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience. If pressed to come up with any areas for improvement I'd note the below items that were VERY minor in comparison the positive experiences I had on the Journey: * Left my key in the spa on the first night and had to get a new one (spa closed prior to me getting back to retrieve the key). The guest relations desk was staffed with only one person and she was overwhelmed - a line of 5-6 people were waiting. * While room service DID accommodate my request for pasta one night, another night (same craving) when I asked the same of the Discovery Restaurant they were unable/unwilling to do the same. * The massage I received on the first night was wonderful; however, I did feel that there was a bit of aggressive upselling in attempting to get me to book more spa treatments throughout the cruise. * Given that this cruise was centered around Italy, I expected that there would be Prosecco onboard (Italian sparking wine); unfortunately, this was not the case. Again, the above represent very minor issues and did not, in any way, infringe upon my enjoyment of this cruise. I'm very motivated to book another cruise with Azamara next year and have already recommended it to anyone who will listen!
