Great embarkation port, but stay in Mestre, October 25, 2012
Reviewer: nhlupine

Pros: Easy to get to port

Cons: Streets are a little confusing

We arrived a few days early to spend time in Venice before our cruise. We stayed in Mestre, which was less expensive and easier to get to the hotel. There is a train into Venice which is easy and cheap, and takes about 15 minutes. From the Venice train station (turn right), one can walk in under ten minutes to the People Mover, an elevated train which takes you directly to the port for 1 euro. If you arrive same day, there is a luggage storage next to the People Mover, if you have a few hours to walk around before boarding.

A perfectly charming city, September 14, 2010
Reviewer: mogul351

Pros: The history, architecture, scenery

Cons: Prices on San Marco Square; eat and buy off the Square.

There really is no other place like Venice. It is a charming one-of-a-kind experience that shouldn't be missed.

Enchanting and unique, Venice is world-famous for good reasons, September 13, 2010
Reviewer: sfvoyage

Pros: Unique architecture and a beautiful city

Cons: Tourists, tourists, and more tourists!

Venice needs scant introduction. It is truly beautiful, romantic and unique. However, my last visit was not as enchanting as previous ones, as the place was overrun with tourists and souvenir shops that all sell the same items. In many other cities, it's possible to get away from the crowds by venturing into certain streets and neighborhoods. However, even this strategy proved futile for me. The place was just mobbed. Also, Piazza San Marcos got flooded every day, day and/or night. Even so, it is Venice, and if you can visit it off-season, you'll have a much better experience. The dock is easily reachable from Piazzale Roma (on foot or one stop on the new skytrain), which is a 5-minute walk across a bridge from the main train station (St. Lucia).

An incredibly beautiful city with a rich history and fantastic food, September 12, 2010
Reviewer: Doug62

Pros: Everything about Venice is positive

Cons: Too many tourists, but you can understand why because Venice is magical

Venice is truly a beautiful city and fantastic to explore on foot. Wander around and get lost in the narrow streets. Take a boat to a neighboring island. Sit in a cafe and enjoy fantastic Venetian food while people watching. Aside from all the tourist things to do (St. Mark's, Doges Palace, etc.), I think Venice is a great city to explore and just relax for a while. If the Armory is open (it is not always) visit it to see where the Venice built all its ships which protected the city for centuries. You can't go wrong in Venice - it's truly magical.
