Pros: A number of things to do close to the pier

Cons: Weather

Trondheim is the old traditional capital of Norway. The Nidaros (St. Olav) cathedral is the northern-most Gothic cathedral in Europe, and is still used for Norwegian royal weddings and coronations. You can walk to the cathedral from the cruise ship pier. It is a university town, with a young population. The Rock Museum (Rockheim) appeals to mostly a younger visitor and is also within walking distance from the pier. On the edge of town, the Ringve Music museum in an old estate house is a fascinating collection of classical music instruments and memorabilia with lovely surrounding gardens. Munkholmen (Monk's Island) close off-shore of the harbor was a monastery, fort, and prison in the past, and was fortified by the Nazi's during WWII. These last two attractions are only open during summer months. There are a number of other museums and attractions here which could take several days to visit.
