Historic port, May 7, 2017

Pros: Port area is full of history
Cons: Limited things to do
This historic port played a big role as a jumping off place for many Arctic and Polar expeditions, and also as an important location for the Resistance in WWII. Close to the port is a memorial to Amundsen, and the house he lived in when preparing for several expeditions (nearby) is now a restaurant. Many people like to visit the Arctic Cathedral, either for services, to see the spectacular architecture and views or for concerts. You can walk across the bridge to this from the port, or take the city bus. Near the pier, the Polar Exploration Museum is very interesting, but I cannot recommend the Polaris Aquarium. It was small and the exhibits not very well done. In winter, you may see Northern Lights here.
