After a wonderful seven-day Mediterranean cruise, we docked at cruise terminal A, and I disembarked at around 9:15 a.m. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to explore the port itself, so I will focus this review on the ease of getting to Athens or Athens airport. From cruise terminal A, it was an easy 20-minute walk to the X96 bus stop for the express airport bus. (The taxi drivers are not keen to go a short distance, so I decided to just walk, as the weather was fine. Otherwise, it would have been a cheap and quick ride to the bus stop.) There was a small ticket stand next to the bus stop to buy the ticket (3.20 euros), or you can buy it on the bus. The bus was easy, relatively scenic, and took not much more than an hour (no traffic on this Saturday morning). However, you should allow for an hour and a half. You take your luggage directly onto the bus, where there is an area to store luggage - but without railings, so your bags can fall over easily. The bus stops right at the departure terminal. You can also take the metro, but it was not working at Piraeus due to construction that weekend. One would have to take a shuttle bus to another metro station. So please check with the destination specialist to make sure the metro and/or the bus is working on your day of departure. Normally, the metro is easy for Athens, with no transfers. For the airport, you'll have to make one transfer. The entire journey takes about an hour and costs 6 euros.
