World-famous Greek village with interesting architecture, September 12, 2010

Pros: Colorful homes, international crowd
Cons: Crowded and touristy
Mykonos needs little introduction, due to its natural beauty, interesting architecture, and wild nightlife. I spent over three hours exploring this town. Everywhere were the famous small houses with white-washed walls, as well as many with all kinds of color schemes. A main feature is the contrasting wall and door/window frames in vibrant color schemes. It's all beautiful and very photogenic. The main tourist streets are crowded and not as charming. However, it's easy to climb up towards the hills to get away from the crowds and explore houses where the locals live. I was hoping to catch a public ferry to the island of Delos for a morning visit. However, due to the rough seas, the service was canceled. Luckily, there was enough to explore in Mykonos itself. It was also good for people-watching, both the international tourist crowds as well as the locals.

Pros: Very easy to walk around and enjoyable to get lost among the narrow streets
Cons: It is a popular stop for cruise ships so it is very crowded with tourists
Mykonos is a wonderful town to spend the day exploring, enjoying good greek food (the fish is so fresh and tasty) and just getting lost among the small streets. The area along the port and the area by the sea is quite busy, but if you walk up the hill and into the narrow streets, the place is quiet, charming and you can really feel how the locals live.
