Cruising the Mekong aboard the Amalotus is a-once-in-a-life-time-experience, January 24, 2014
Reviewer: juppi
Pros: comfortable ship, included sightseeing program, selection & presentation of meals
Cons: none
Date of cruise: February 19, 2013
Departure port: Hanoi
Region visited: Asia/Far East
Cabin category: Balcony
Good for children: No
Good for teenagers: Yes
After a pre-cruise program (which is absolutely a "must") in Hanoi and Siem Reap we boarded the AmaLotus for a 7-day cruise on the Mekong. What a boat. This was my third AMA cruise and they are just getting better. The ship and service are marvelous. The AmaLotus is the newest ship on the Mekong and its staterooms are bigger than on any other ship. Another plus is that all staterooms are entered from an inside hallway and not from an outside promenade, from where other cruisers could look into your room when walking by. There is no promenade on the AmaLotus. One can enjoy the river view in privacy. And what a view this is, passing by little villages and seeing people in their daily lives gives one the feeling of experiencing the "real Vietnam." After an included two days post-cruise stay in Saigon our truely memorable vacation came to an end, when we boarded our flight back home.
