Waste of time if you are not a water person, November 18, 2016
Reviewer: capri3

Pros: Pretty view from the ship

Cons: If you are not a water person there is absolutely nothing at all to do here.

Our ship spent a day here and we spent the day on the ship. On the dock there were 8-10 gazebos selling tourist items but that was all. There was nothing to walk to or visit. The excursions are all geared towards water such as scuba and snorkling or sitting on a beach. I would suggest if you are not a water person, skip this port entirely.

Dunns River Falls Were AMAZING!, January 6, 2014
Reviewer: centex_mojo

Pros: So much fun ... I'm 60 and overweight ... but able to climb the falls!!

Cons: Long drive to the falls - an hour & half with no traffic - each way!

We used Dunns River Falls Express. Loved the man who drove us ...so funny and nice. Only 10 of us in his group (as opposed to the 100+ with carnival). Felt like we had a personal tour guide. Never left us until we started climbing the falls. Made sure we were well taken care of ... After the falls, he took us to a local restaurant that was FABULOUS. He was always watching to clock to ensure we got back to the ship with plenty of time. Great Experience!

Be aware, March 10, 2013
Reviewer: sacleland

Pros: Friendly Jamaicans

Cons: Young kids soliciting for handouts, to purchase sex and drugs. Creepy.

We went ashore and did not book any excursions as we often do better with arranging our own. Do your homework and check out online excursions, tourist information, etc. and you can save a bundle plus you are then on your own schedule. I was pestered by a group of young boys about 8-10 years old asking if I needed sex (they said boys or girls) or drugs or anything else. When I asked why they were not in school, they said they had no money for uniforms... The better shops were OK. Be alert to possible problems..... I also felt unsafe in the straw market, go with someone else along.

Doctors Cave Beach, December 29, 2010
Reviewer: obxkaren

Pros: Low cost half day activity

Cons: None

We were on tight budget during our cruise and decided not to do any of the ship-offered excursions. I had researched Doctor's Cave Beach prior to the cruise and everyone had given this spot high ratings. We caught a cab from Port - $5 per person to Doctors Cave which is about a 15-20 minute ride from port (the traffic was insane!) We had arrived in Montego Bay early in the morning and were one of the first to arrive at Doctors Cave (I believe they open at 8:30) -- $5 per person to get in and they do rent chairs, umbrellas and snorkling gear. There is also parasailing and jet skiing available. This beach is absolutely beautiful -- there is a large reef about 30 yards from shore and my kids scored on finding beach glass on the reef! They also have the water trampolines for the kids. There is a bar and a couple of restaurants right at the beach and the staff did come around every few minutes to see if you wanted anything -- very friendly and not pushy -- food prices seemed a bit high but you never had to leave your chair! Beach became more crowded as the morning went on -- pretty packed by the time we left at 12:30 - mostly cruise ship folks. We left to shop, they will stamp your hand if you want to come back in, but unfortunately we had to be back at the ship by 2:30 so we could not return! Leave yourself plenty of time to get back to port -- the traffic is bumper to bumper on the way back! This was my teenagers' favorite stop on the cruise. Great place to spend a half day -- we had a wonderful time!

Ode to catamaran...rain or shine, July 19, 2010
Reviewer: aduran

Pros: The best thing about Jamaica is the Jamaicans!

Cons: Checking back in was quite the experience

We booked an excursion through our cruise ship called the Dreamers Catamaran. To keep it really simple...WE HAD A BLAST! It started raining right as we were to begin our excursion which included a trip around Montego Bay on a catamaran with a stop for snorkeling. he stop for snorkeling was well supervised and instructions for first time snorkelers were easy to understand. Then we sailed over to Margaritaville and enjoyed some food from the famous Jimmy Buffet restaurant. Our sail back around Montego Bay included an open bar and fun Caribbean dancing. Even rain did not stop our fun experience. Our hosts on the catamaran were excellent and even offered the women foot massages on the way back to port. Upon our return the cruise ship terminal, there was a long walk in the rain and flooded parking lot in order to go through security but we had no problems other than being really wet. This was my second visit to Jamaica and I have been pleased both times. The Jamaican lifestyle is the way to live. No problem mon!
