Pros: Art works galore
Cons: Long ride on train from Livorno to Florence
We left the ship at 7 a.m., grabbed a taxi to the train station and took the train for a 1-1/2 hour ride into Florence. We went to the Accademia and saw Michelangelo's David, some of his other statues and the Rape of the Sabines. We hade made reservations on the internet but there was no line so we did not use them and saved the 4 Euro reservation fee. Next we walked thru the San Lorenzo market and stopped for a coffee and pastry. Then we went to the Duomo, a large, ornate cathedral. We walked to the Uffizi gallery, down a pedestrian only street that was lined with expensive shops and very old churches adorned with statues and art work. Again, there was no line and we did not use our reservations. The museum is up four flights of stairs. This museum has the greatest collection of Italian paintings anywhere - Leonardo DaVinci, Raphael, Titian, Michelangelo and Botticelli. We stopped at the Ponte Vecchio bridge and got a gelato for the walk back to the train station. At the end of the train and taxi ride to the ship, we hit the hot tub again. This time with peach daiquiris.
