Interesting authentic seaside town, September 12, 2010
Reviewer: sfvoyage
Pros: Not touristy at all, with good view of the sea
Cons: Not a terribly exciting place
Gythion (or Gytheio) is a port town with lots of good fish restaurants and some good ouzeries, along with some amazing old buildings from the past two centuries. I spent over an hour wandering around this town, heading up the hill for panoramic view of the sea. It seems more authentic and a little gritty, with limited souvenir shops and other businesses targeted at tourists. Perhaps this is not as popular a port of call for cruise ships. It was an enjoyable, albeit somewhat forgettable, port for a quick visit.

Quiet town, not much to do, best for walking around a bit, September 12, 2010
Reviewer: Doug62
Pros: Not many tourists at all, so the place was very quiet and enjoyable for that.
Cons: If you are looking for something to do in the town there isn't any sightseeing
Gytheio is a small, quiet town with not much to see or do. It is a port stop in order to see Sparta or Mystra so unless you want to see these two places by a shore excursion you won't have much to do at this port stop. But because it is not a stop for big ships the town is not overrun with tourists which makes it a much more enjoyable and relaxing day than other ports.
