Ft. Lauderdale is an easy to access port from air or land with nearby parking, July 1, 2011

Pros: Parking at port, airport close, hotels close by, some w/park and cruise.
Cons: We had a terrible experience when we decided to park off site.
On one cruise we decided to park off site. Only time we experienced a problem. Site promised to be within l/2 mile of port. We didn't find that to be true. Horrible, horrible breakdown in getting people from parking to port. It was so bad that the police had been called the day we were there to break up a skirmish among passengers waiting to go to port. We finally got to the port with one of the workers offering to take us in our own car. At pickup time upon return, the bus just kept going by w/o stopping to pick us up. When we called the parking site, we were told we'd "just have to wait our turn." No estimate of when that would be. Even the policeman directing traffic was frustrated in his attempts to assist us. Over an hour later we decided we'd better get other transportation. A taxi was called. Even the taxi driver didn't seem to know where this place was. We had to wait a good while to get our car out although we had paid for preferred parking. They just couldn't handle the number of people leaving cars and picking them up. I suggest you avoid this experience by parking at the port or at some other place.
