An amazing experience! What a difference from cruise ships and river cruises. You can't beat the exceptional and personalized service from a canal barge. With only six passengers on board, our likes and dislikes were catered to immediately. Each day was slow and leisurely. We could ask to stop at certain locations or get off the barge and bike and be picked up later. Only sailing about five miles a day, our time was not scheduled and it was relaxing. The food was picked and bought fresh from each tiny town and served up. Our specific dietary concerns were always addressed by our private chef, the only other staff member besides the captain. AMAZING food!!!! And so local and indicative of the region, too. Two of the three rooms were much more spacious than the other, which is what I had. They don't have names or numbers. You'll just have to ask for the large rooms at the front of the barge, not the one in the back, where we had to leave the room in order to get to the bathroom. Space is limited, so don't bring a lot of luggage. Wine in plentiful and everything is included. You can even rent out the entire barge for a small party, which is a unique event. Highly, highly recommend if you don't need fast paced touring every day and you want to really see what small towns are like in France, where no one speaks English but everyone is delighted to have you visit their city.
