Pros: The town is nice to stroll, but rent a car and explore this place. Wow!
Cons: I wish we had three more hours
Charlottestown was a great surprise. We were adventurous and opted out of a ship's tour because we had booked a rental car in advance. We not only spent more time at what we believed to be the key destinations, but took in more areas and more stops than several of the offered tours combined. To have the ability to turn off any main road just because we saw something cool off in the distance and wanted to check it out made this trip/exploration all the more serendipitous. Maps at the rental place were great but be sure to pack your GPS just in case. The overall cost for the four of us to do what we did cost about as much as one individual tour would have cost. We had a better time.

Anne of Green Gables excursion was delightful., September 2, 2010

Pros: Beautiful island
Cons: Not having time for a regional lobster supper
We took the Anne of Green Gables excursion which we arranged through Prince Edward Island tours after we arrived. The cost was similar to the HAL excursion. We boarded a 24-passenger bus just outside the terminal and were introduced to the island by a delightful gentleman whose love for the island informed every description. It was a 3-1/2 hour tour which included the home of Anne of Green Gables, a visit to the red cliffs of the state park, and a visit to a lobster village complete with a lesson about how lobsters are caught etc. The islanders were very cordial and extremely proud of their island. Glad we went.
