About Celebrity Xpedition Cruise Tours
Celebrity Xpedition
The Ship. Built in 2001 and launched for Celebrity in 2004, the Celebrity Xpedition is less of a cruise ship and more of a high-end luxury cruise yacht. At only about 2,800 tons, she carries just 96 passengers and is perfect for travelers looking for adventure off the beaten path. Xpedition offers year-round Galapagos cruises, where you can immerse yourself in the world-renowned wildlife of these storied islands as you follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin.
Highlights include nature hikes, guided by expert naturalists, to see Galapagos tortoises, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, Galapagos penguins, and the variety of other bird species endemic to the islands. You can also tour Quito, Ecuador, and arrange pre- or post- trips to Lima and Cuzco to explore Inca archeological sites.
These shore excursions are included in your cruise fare, as is nearly everything else--from airport transfers to park admissions to gratuities to free WI-FI to the open bar on board.
Dining. Though the ship is small, this is no hazard when it comes to dining options.
The Darwin Dining Room breakfasts feature cooked-to-order omelets along with a widely varied breakfast buffet. Lunch includes salad options, hot entrees and fresh-baked bread. Dinners on this small ship are comparable to the gourmet fare served in the dining rooms on Celebrity's largest ships. with multiple courses and a variety of choices of soups, entrees, salads and deserts. Fresh local fish is often the best choice here.
The Beagle Grill serves simple lunch options including burgers, pizza and salads, and snacks are available in the Discovery Lounge and at the bar in the afternoons.
Free room service is also available.
Spa and Fitness. As befits an expedition ship, spa facilities are limited to a sunbathing area, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, and massages. The gym is also small, offering a few cardio machines and some weight equipment.
Nighttime Entertainment is subdued. Briefings about the next day's tours and quiet drinks are the norm. Cabins do feature flat-screen televisions with a selection of movies, and the ship's library is well-stocked with books.
Kids. Xpedition does not have separate programs specifically for kids. While children are welcome and might certainly enjoy a Galapagos cruise, the experience is designed to cater to adults.
