A remodeled ship that largely missed the mark. Satisfactory but uninspiring., January 3, 2014

We sailed this ship twice when it was the Destiny and now twice as the newly refurbished Sunshine choosing it strictly on destination ports and price. The Sunshine's layout is not clean and logical. Even at the end of the week you constantly have to stop and think about - How do I get there from here? To get from the Lobby atrium or your cabin in the front of deck 3 to the Sunrise Dining Room in the aft of deck 3, you must first go up to deck 5 and then walk to the back of the ship and then back down to deck 3. The Comedy Shows are held in the Limelight Lounge in the rear of deck 4. A room that has a low ceiling and is too small for the amount of passenger interest. There is no way to pass around this lounge. They force you to enter on the forward side of the lounge on deck 4 but you must exit to the rear and then go up to deck 5 (or other cabin decks) to return to the front of the ship even if your desired destination is another deck 4 venue. Food on the Lido deck was adequate but uninspiring. Breakfast never changed. Lunch buffet was limited in selections and repetitive with fried food like chicken fingers and such every day. Best lunch options were the deli counter and the best hot meat served was the Guy Fieri hamburgers.i Main Dining Room food portions were small and largely of mundane quality although extra portions were served if requested. You just never new what to expect. Beef dishes had that well cooked "warmed up" flavor, mashed potatoes were served in a short small 2" wide cup and ice cream for dessert was always served half melted. Comedy Club entertainment was clearly the best entertainment available on both cruises but for some reason is held in a small venue rather than the much larger tiered Liquid Lounge. The staff production shows with professional singers and dancers were a mixed bag. On our first cruise they were literally meager efforts and terrible. On our recent Caribbean cruise they were mostly enjoyable although I believe the number of performers is smaller and things such as a house band have been replaced by mostly prerecorded music. We did see one live guitarist participate - unfortunately it was an ear splitting rendition of heavy metal music. Other entertainment consisted of the usual variety of art shows, bingo and no-budget cruiser participant game show along with the requisite casino gambling. Staff was friendly and did their jobs well. The gym was rather larger than I expected with a very respectable amount of quality equipment.
