We completely enjoyed all aspects of our first river cruise, August 24, 2010
Reviewer: arthyzer
Pros: Excursion organization, from the guide headsets to the "slow walkers"
Cons: Very tiring - busier than the large cruise ships; dinner wines unimpressive
Date of cruise: April 24, 2010
Departure port: Budapest
Region visited: Europe
Cabin category: Balcony
Cabin number: 214
River boats have smaller accommodations than cruise ships, but they do not cut corners on luxury. We loved the french balcony and a more impressive shower than at home. The smaller crew leads to a more intimate cruising experience. Even met the captain's wife. We enjoyed the meals and the waitstaff worked hard to make them all an enjoyable experience. We really enjoyed our cabin steward, her only downside, she was an insufferable fresh air fiend - unless it was raining. Our trip included three days ending in Prague. AMAWaterways impressed us by never leaving us without our own concierge. You expect that on the ship, but this was at the hotel and include our 3 a.m. departure for the airport. Definitely a top-notch operation.
