The food was poor. The staff was great. The ports were excellent, October 31, 2014

This was the first and last time I will ever cruise with Royal Caribbean. The ship is really old and despite the advertisements the ship was not really refurbished. The food in the Windjammer cafe was disgusting. There was no variety and the only salad was lettuce and tomatoes. We were Diamond club members because of elite status on Celebrity Crises so we could eat breakfast in the Mozart room. Equally awful. You wait one hour for a cold breakfast. This ship was battling a norovirus and we were delayed boarding. Having flown in from New. York we were housed in another cruise line terminal all day. The only refreshment offered by Royal Caribbean was water. They are so cheap that you had to buy food if you were hungry. We chose this cruise because of the ports, which were excellent. We have been cruising for 20 years and are elite members on Celebrity cruise line owned by Royal Caribbean. The difference between the lines is incredible. It appears that Royal Caribbean is putting all of their resources into building the new ships like the Quantum and allowing the older ships to deteriorate. My advise is think carefully before booking with Royal Caribbean. The cost is expensive versus the value received. As an aside, I also registered my criticism with the cruise line and have never heard a word back from them.

Very good ship, a bit too large. 3,500 passengers, 1,500-1,800 would be better, December 28, 2012
Reviewer: gflann

Pros: Food, service, facilities

Cons: The lineup at the initial port. poor tv device. very poor available channels

Date of cruise: December 16, 2012

Departure port: san juan

Region visited: Caribbean - Eastern

Cabin category: Balcony

Cabin number: 7674

Good for teenagers: Yes

Good cruise, Eastern Caribbean islands. Internet access is expensive and slow. Poor TV -- CNN, Fox, ESPN, no major networks. Constant looping of ancient movies, e.g., Three Stooges, James Stewart. Portofino italian restaurant is really great, $20 pp surcharge. We got a coupon from Cruises and More, but I would have paid to go there once or twice. The port authority lineup of two hours in the sun was disgraceful and disrespectful. RCL should tell them to fix it or delete the port

I wouldn't go on this ship again, very disappointing experience, December 2, 2011
Reviewer: kentjackson

Pros: Cabin and main dining room staff

Cons: Public bathrooms smelled, very limited ice rink time, food not very good

Date of cruise: November 20, 2011

Departure port: San Juan

Region visited: Caribbean - Southern

Cabin category: Jr. Suite

Cabin number: 9570

Good for children: Yes

We just returned from a Southern Caribbean cruise on the Adventure. We were really looking forward to spending time on the ice rink but there were only two open free skate times: 4-6 p.m. one day and 9-11 a.m. another day (and I'm being generous with the time frames). Of course, by the time you get through all the crowds and the ticketing procedure - it left 15-20 minutes to skate on the tiny rink. The public restrooms smelled awful. You had to practically hold your nose when you entered and exit as quickly as possible. The food at the casual dining restaurant was bland and boring. Most of the meats dried out under the heat lamps. Very disappointing. The specialty restaurants were a rip-off. They had a per person 'cover charge' on top of the price for food. For instance there was a $5 cover charge for each person just to get into Johnny Rockets and then the cost of the overpriced food. After that rip-off, we didn't even bother with the Italian restaurant, which has a $20 per person cover charge. After paying so much per person for this ship, the per person cover charge for these so-called specialty restaurants are a rip-off! Don't waste your money! The main dining room service was nice, but dining takes at least two hours, which is hard for young children to sit through. Tip: If traveling with a young child, alert the Adventure Ocean staff that you'd like your child picked up from your dining room and alert your waiter. The waiter can expedite your child's dinner so the staff can pick up your child early for the evening care session. This way, you can relax and enjoy the rest of your dinner and dessert. Believe me, the diners around you will appreciate it as well. The table next to us kept their 4-year-old at the dining table the entire time. Poor child was bored to tears and and always getting in trouble. Everyone knew that child's name after hearing it yelled so much during dinner. Spare yourself and your child some misery by using the pick up service by the Adventure Ocean staff. Pools and hot tubs were nice. And the ice skating show was good. The other shows were disappointing and not worth the effort. Our junior stateroom was nice and accommodated our small family of three well. Our cabin steward was amazing and offered good beach recommendations at each port.
